Burwood triangle. Andy Bucksteins may have looked at the wrong hedge. Residents advised this has been cut down but it is diseased and cutting down will not really help. Tarmac put down where roots have lifted pavement. Residents feel this is a short term solution.

Neighbourhood Watch. Jenny Buckmaster.

Generally, the past year has been quiet with very few occasions when we have had to use the cascade warning system and these have been mainly van break-ins rather than residential. Unfortunately when you are a victim of crime, one incident is too many and we are regularly being advised to help cut down burglaries by following these simple rules:-

Are all you door and window frames in good order?

Do you have timers available for lights and radio?

Do you have a shed alarm fitted to your shed?

Is your garden fence really good, high and secure

Have you got good five-lever mortice locks fitted to all external doors?

For the best crime-prevention advice, talk to your local Crime Prevention Officer or contact the Neighbourhood Watch Office, Ruislip Police Station, The Oaks, Ruislip 020 8246 1825 or E-mail All@Hillingdonnhw.co.uk.

The whole of the neighbourhood watch scheme is becoming much more organised and automated with regular updates being received via the web. We also receive regular crime figures for the area. Our area Eastcote and Ruislip ranks a very good 18th out of 22 with 77 residential burglaries being reported between April 2004 and March 2005. The highest number reported in an area was 145 burglaries and the lowest was 33 just to give you some comparison.

NHW is now covered by Public Liability Insurance, just in case one of our Street Co-ordinators falls over while delivering a cascade message, or we fall off a chair at a NHW meeting!!

Hillingdon NHW hold a conference every year at the Civic Centre. This year it is on Sunday 12th June between 10am and 12 noon. Unfortunately, I’m unable to go. But if anyone would like to, I’m sure they would find if very informative as they have some interesting speakers and it would give them an opportunity to question some of Hillingdon’s senior police officers about the Policing of our area.

I also feel that it is time that I stepped down from being a Co-ordinator because, although I believe very strongly in the scheme I have been doing the job for a fair number of years and we need someone with fresh ideas and a bit more enthusiasm. The job is not hard and can be interesting especially if you are keen on computers. So I would be pleased to hear from anyone who would be willing to take over this role.

I would still be willing to be a street-coordinator and I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all the street-coordinators for their continued commitment, because without that there would not be a NHW.

Any other business

There are still problems with youths in the park. Problems are especially so with young girls screaming as no one knows whether they are being attacked or enjoying themselves.

Defensive planting to be arranged for walled garden to reduce risk of graffiti. Committee to arrange.

Motorised scooters have been a problem in Burwood Avenue. These children are putting their lives at risk as they have no lights, crash helmets and possibly no licences and are running in the centre of the road. These children are obviously at risk of being involved in a serious accident.

Thank you to Margaret and other for plants at entrance to the estate.

Can missing section of path be concreted by car park. Can Scott speak to the council.

The Glen. Roundabout has been done and resident have planted bulbs which were followed by shrubs from the council.

Can a lockable gate be put in St. Lawrence drive? Police have advised there is little or no chance of this.

There are allotments to rear of Rodney Gardens available for rent.

Follow up letters

Dear Cllrs Dann and Baker

The recent AGM of the Eastcote Park Estate Association requested that I ask you to look into the following on behalf of residents of the estate:

The footpath in the Eastcote House Gardens is broken as it runs from the coach house down and round by the High Road – could this be repaired to ensure access is maintained once the inclement weather returns?

The triangle of grass at Burwood Avenue/Rodney Gardens junction requires immediate work as it has a honey fungus and needs to be treated and replanted. Council officers have not addressed the situation adequately in the past 12 moinths and the traingle is in need of urgent attention

The lighting in Eastcote House Gardens also leaves a lot to be desired, is this something officers could look at and remedy if they felt it was suitable. The park is a shirt cut for many people and lighting would allow them to feel more secure after dark

There is a street light out at 15 – 17 Bridle Road, could this be directed for officer’s attention

The final area is the state of play with the Coach House and Walled Garden and the fact that the Friends of EHG seem to have gone quiet on what is to happen next. The Association has asked me to guage your support in presenting a petition to Cabinet requesting a full report and action plan be developed by officers and not left to other unaccountable groups. Perhaps you could let us know your thoughts on this?

Many thanks for your assistance. We want to ensure you are included and consulted at every stage as the Councillors responsible for Eastcote. We would also welcoem you to future meetings of the Association and I will ask by way of this note for the Secretary to copy you next dates. We ususally meet at the Case is Altered which makes for a relaxing hour or so!

Very best regards

Scott
