dovecot Eastcote House Gardens

There have been many requests for the Friends of Eastcote House Gardens to hold gardening sessions on a Saturday. We have decided to have a three months trial starting Saturday 1st October 2011. We will meet in the car park at 10.30 session will last until 12.30.This session we will be preparing the ground for the Jubilee Orchard, removing the self set ash trees from the boundary ready for planting the hedgerow later in the month, and for those who prefer weeding there are plenty of weeds in the Walled Garden. We do have some tools but if you can bring a border spade and fork it will be a help. Future sessions will be the first Saturday of the month, 5th November and 3rd December.

October Gardening Dates

Eastcote Jubilee Picnic Saturday June 2nd 2012

The Jubilee Community Orchard

To prepare for planting the new orchard an area has been dug behind the walled garden.

The area dug will contain the new trees. Another area to the side has also been dug. This was full of stumps and raised roots. This area will be raked over and grass seed put down. The orchard will be underplanted with daffodils next Autumn, this will be a School project. In spring an Urban meadow will be sown to give some summer colour.

The orchard will consist of 15 trees, apple & pear chosen by Gerry Edwards. No tree will grow higher than 6-7 feet. Each tree will be seperately protected.

gardenEastcote House Garden won its grant of £23,000 from Groundwork UK and the Big Lottery Fund. The plan is to spend the money on landscaping, making repairs to the walls and paving, new signs, reinstating the Queen’s Silver Jubilee herb garden and replanting the boarders. We will be asking children from local schools and organizations if they would like to help with the planting. See Walled Garden Renovation Project for details of the plan and how you can help!

"EASTCOTE HOUSE GROUNDS"

This 1981 document has been added to the site. The quality is fairly poor but it is still fascinating. If anyone has a better quality copy, please let me know (webmaster@eastcoteparkestate.org.uk). The photo of the house was really poor, so I have replaced it with a better one. It would be useful if someone knowledgeable could check the tree list and update it where necessary.
