 Newsletter- September 2003

Autumn Event

This year’s event will take place on Saturday 15th November in St Lawrence’s Church Hall starting at 7.30 p.m. The event will be partly an historical evening with presentations on the history of the estate and surrounding area. The other part will be a buffet with wine and the opportunity to meet people who know about the beginnings of our estate. There will also be a small quiz and a raffle. We also hope to present the garden awards during the evening.

The tickets price is £12.50 per person and these are available from Margaret Bacon or Martin Hand or Lyn Facey. We do hope you will support the evening – It should be a fun event.

 New Residents

All new residents to the estate should receive a welcome letter from the Association. Should you be new to the estate and have not received a welcome letter please contact a member of the committee or e-mail the association. The welcome letter is also available on the Web site.

Carol Singing

A further date for your diary is14th December. Carol singing around the Estate

is planned to take place on this Sunday. Further details will follow nearer the time.

Planning and Conservation

The main item of note is that the Bellway development in Bridle Road had been refused planning permission.

Eastcote Park

We remind members that Eastcote Park can be used for parties subject to permission from Hillingdon Council. Please contact David Bryant at the council offices for the appropriate permission. The committee would obviously encourage anyone organising such parties to respect the park and its surrounding residents by avoiding any excessive noise pollution and by leaving the park as tidy as it was before the event

The phone number for the Parks Patrol is 01895-239241. This number can be used to report any problems in Eastcote Park.

Road Steward Required

A vacancy has arisen for a road steward.

The tasks of the road stewards are to circulate newsletters and other leaflets (approx. 4 per year), to collect the subscriptions and to welcome new residents to the estate. The current vacancy is for the area around 25 to 47 Burwood Avenue and covers 25 properties. You do not have to live in this area to volunteer. Should anyone wish to fill this important role on the estate please contact Margaret Bacon. There is a Road Stewards social evening in March every year to enable the Stewards to meet each other and also meet the committee.

Children’s Disco

The children’s disco will take place on Saturday 11th October 2003. The event will start at 3.00 p.m. and finish at 5.00 p.m. The age range is from 4 to 11 years old. The event will take place in the Methodist Church Hall.

Tickets are priced at £4.00 and can be obtained by contacting Richard Green or Richard Maude.

 Neighbourhood Watch

Following a meeting of the Neighbourhood Watch Team the cascade system is now ready to operate. PC Steve Woodruff is due to attend the next Neighbourhood Watch meeting to give an update on the aims of the Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

One point of security to remind residents of is to treat keys as valuable items at all times. There are now many instances of burglary becoming car theft as thieves, all too easily, find garage and car keys about the house.

Welfare

A donation of £425.00 has been made from the welfare collected with the 2003 subscriptions. The donation will be made to Grangewood School in Fore Street. The school intends to use the donation to pay for a “Drama day” which is delivered by the Oily Cart Theatre Company.  The day offers a range of activities giving the children the opportunity to experience sounds, smells and tactile encounters. This is a great experience for children who, due to severe disabilities, have so little opportunity to interact and respond to their environment.

Thank you for all your donations.
