Eastcote Park Estate Association

 New Year Newsletter- February 2003

The Committee wishes you all a Happy New Year

Your Estate Needs You

The primary reason for this newsletter is to ask for more people to step forward and play a role in the running of the Eastcote Park Estate Association.

The constitution of the association suggests that the Management Committee should be made up of 10 people including the 3 officers (being Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer). Five members are needed for a quorum. Currently we have 6 committee members. Unfortunately Mike Platts has had to step down from the committee for personal reasons. We wish him and his family well and hope he will be able to rejoin us in the not too distant future.

With other commitments that most people have in today’s busy world the wisdom of having 10 members is clear in order to spread the load and ensure a quorum is able to meet. We do need more help.

Should you wish to talk about joining the committee before putting you name forward please contact one of the committee members whose names and phone numbers are at the end of this newsletter.

Should you wish to join us or attend a committee meeting on a trial basis please contact the  Secretary or Treasurer to let us know of your interest.

Whilst there is a certain amount of business for the committee to conduct, the meetings have proved to be friendly, interesting and enjoyable events. The Eastcote Park Estate Association is part of what makes our estate special so we do hope that more members will step forward.

Some of the events and achievements of the Association over the last 2 years have been:

Carol Singing .

Jubilee Dinner.

Jubilee Street Party.

Easter Egg hunts.

Fish and chip supper quiz

Children’s disco.

Obtaining a £2,000 grant for tree and bulb planting.

Running of the Neigbourhood Watch scheme.

Hopefully we will be able to continue and extend such activities and achievements in the future.

Children’s Disco

The Committee does not have anyone with the talent for organising and running the Children’s disco. We really do need someone to step forward and volunteer to provide their invaluable service to the benefit of our young people. Please contact a member of the Committee if you are prepared to help. We would hope to run this event in March so please come forward by 15.2.02 to enable us to book the hall and make arrangements in good time.  The committee will provide support and contacts to anyone who is interested but the event will not take place unless someone volunteers.

Payment of Subscriptions and Welfare for 2003

To facilitate easier collection of subs by the Road Stewards members are invited to make payments by cheque directly to the Treasurer, Martin Hand, xx St Lawrence Drive between 1.1.03 and 1.03.03. Cheques should be payable to: Eastcote Park Estate Association. Please remember to write your name and address on the back of the cheque so that we know who it is from.

The Road Stewards will then make 2 calls during the period between mid March and  mid May to those who have not already paid. Should there be no answer on the first visit a note will be left to advise they have called and will call again. Should there be no answer on the second visit a note will be left requesting a cheque be delivered direct to the Treasurer before the AGM in May.

The subs remain at £2.50 with a further contribution for charity at your discretion. This year the charity fund will go to the Grangewood School in Fore Street. This school is for children with learning difficulties. Last year the 251 homes on the Estate raised over £400.00 for Children with Leukaemia. We thank everyone for their generosity which, hopefully, will be repeated this year.

Planning and Conservation

It is of note that, in conjunction with permission to build 4 new 4 bedroom homes on the Retreat site it is likely that there will be no right turn out of that site. This may result in additional traffic at the end of Pamela Gardens as cars turn in the triangle in front of the Methodist church. Should you wish to take this opportunity to raise the issue of further consideration being given to traffic flows around that triangle please write to Ruth Willis who is the Director of Environmental Services at Hillingdon Council. You may also like to send a copy to Cllr Scott Seaman-Digby   (Chairman of the local Planning Committee) at the Civic Centre. It has been proposed by the Ward Councillor, Cllr Bruce Baker, that the triangle be made one way in (on the side nearest the roundabout on High Road Eastcote) and one way out (on the side towards The Retreat).

 Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting is likely to be held at the end of May. We will advise the date in a future newsletter. I note that one of the issues we will have on the agenda is to discuss the privet hedge and posts around the green at the junction of Burwood Ave and Rodney Gardens.
