Newsletter- SEPTEMBER 2006
Autumn Event
The Autumn event will be in St Lawrence Church Hall
The event will be a Ceilidh/Barn Dance.
The ticket price is £12.50 to covers the cost of the hire of the hall and the band. Some soft drinks and crisps etc will be available but not an evening meal etc. Please bring any refreshments (wine etc.) you would like during the evening. Bear in mind that activity could build up a thirst. It is some years since we last had an event of this nature and we expect it to be as popular as last time.
Please contact Richard Maude (
family if they are not taken up by residents so please apply promptly to avoid disappointment. Payment can be made by cheques payable to Eastcote Park Estate Association.
Carol Singing
This is another event which has been traditional over the years. Please note that this is not a fund raising event. We will not be knocking on doors for money or mince pies.
Good voices are not needed as we will be singing for our own pleasure only. The singing will start at
There is no need to book just turn up full of gusto
Judging is now complete. Winners will be announced later this year probably at the Carol Singing Event.

Road Stewards Required
Our road stewards play a vital part in the existence of the Association. The tasks of the road stewards are to circulate newsletters and other leaflets (approx. 4 per year), to collect the subscriptions and to welcome new residents to the estate. There is a Road Stewards and Neighbourhood watch social evening in March every year to enable the volunteers to meet each other and also meet the committee. Should you be interested in carrying out this role please advise a member of the committee.
Peggy Kirke is resigning part of her round in the area around 1-7 Field end Road. We thank Peggy Kirke for all her work as a road steward for many years.
This now leaves 3 areas on the estate covered by the committee because no road Steward has volunteered: An area of Field end Road, The Lower end of St Lawrence Drive and an area around 39 Burwood Avenue. The largest round on the estate is 29 homes to ensure no one has a very large area to cover. Please seriously consider helping the association by becoming a road steward. Should you wish to know any more about what is involved please ask a member of the committee?
Wellbeing on the estate
As with any neighbourhood good relations with our neighbours is something which is an important part of our well being. The committee cannot however intervene in an any disagreements or act as arbiters where there are any disagreements. Some advice on a couple of issues which can occur are follows.
Where there is noise pollution which cannot be solved by polite requests to your neighbours please contact Hillingdon Council. (See contacts at the end of the newsletter)
Should stray dogs be found please contact the dog Warden at Hillingdon Council. Any dog which is roaming alone is a stray dog. It may be preferable to contact the owner, if known, to request that the dog is recovered but it is for the good of us all to ensure no dogs are left roaming without the owner.
New Committee Members needed
We are currently 2 short of the 10 required committee members. Should you be interested in joining the committee please contact one of the existing members. The secretary will normally be happy to invite 1 or 2 guests to our meetings to give them an idea of what goes on prior to officially joining the committee.
As with most people the existing committee has limited time to spend on estate matters so additional members would help us do more. Joining the committee will improve your knowledge and contacts around the estate.
Whilst there is a certain amount of business for the committee to conduct, the meetings have proved to be friendly, interesting and enjoyable events. The Eastcote Park Estate Association is part of what makes our estate special so we do hope that more members will step forward.
Electronic Communications
Our WEB site is now being expanded by Robin Pyburn.
The web site is available at:
http://www.eastcoteparkestate.org.uk
The site has a good deal of information on the history of the estate with some original drawings etc.
There are also copies of recent Newsletters, last AGM minutes etc. Should you have any articles or pictures etc which you feel we should consider putting on the site please e-mail to the address shown on the web site.
Neighbourhood Watch
We thank Chris Head for stepping forward to be our Neighbourhood watch coordinator and wish him well.
The main responsibility of a Neighbourhood Watch Co-coordinator is to make sure messages from the police received through Ringmaster are circulated via the established cascade system to the Street Co-coordinators, who pass the messages on to their local neighbours.
Estate DVD
A video of the estate was made by residents in 1997 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of the Estate. The video gave an account of the history of the Estate from 1937-1997. This was done exceedingly well both by the residents and with the assistance from some professionals. The video provides interesting details on the history of the estate. We feel this is a valuable record for any residents both from an interest point of view and as an advertisement for our Estate.
This video is now available in DVD format priced at £12.50. Please contact Richard Maude for your copy. (Every home should have one).
Subscriptions
Most of the Road Stewards have now collected their subscription for 2006. Should you have been left a note to say they missed you please pay direct to the treasurer at
Article 4 Direction
No Change since the last newsletter when we notedt that the Council are currently considering a new consultation on a road by road basis. Information can be obtained from the Planning Department, on 01895 250111. The Committee will not take a stance on the Article 4 matter. We will remain impartial as we believe this is up to individual residents to express their views. Should you receive a letter regarding consultation, please respond as it is your input which helps the Council formulate policy.
